BENEFITS OF PEDICURES
Everyone knows that it feels nice to get a pedicure. Getting some extra time spent on pampering the toes and legs is always welcomed.
Even the polished toenails look wonderful and make you feel so pleased with yourself. There are also physical benefits to getting a pedicure on a regular schedule. While your manicurist/pedicurist is working on your feet, they are doing more than just playing with your toes. By removing the dead skin and calluses with either pumice, or other implements, your pedicurist is helping to improve the appearance as well as your comfort.
Having calluses on your feet can cause uneven pressure when you walk or stand that can also lead to the pain you feel when on your feet all day. Many pedicurists also use foot reflexology while giving pedicures. This helps stimulate the blood flow to the feet and legs and provides the relaxation you feel when someone is massaging. The massage in a pedicure or manicure is one of the most important parts. Massaging certain spots on someone's foot sends signals to other parts of the body to encourage overall health improvement anywhere in the body. Depending on the amount of pressure, the area being worked on, and the ailment of concern you can see results from eyes to liver to solar plexus.
In the case of spa pedicures with various scents there are additional benefits above and beyond the physical. It has been a studied for years that certain scents and oils can be beneficial for improving circulation, focus, memory and mood. Pedicures that incorporate scents often have several of these benefits included with them. The smell of lime invigorates the mind, sugar excites, vanilla relaxes.
All of these may seem like simple scents you are paying more for but are actually making your pedicure great, instead of just good. Leaving the salon with pretty toes may seem like the only reward you get, but you are also gaining a good mood and better health. Besides, it never hurts to have pretty toes.

SKIN NEEDS PROTECTION FROM SUMMER RAYS
Sunscreens, along with antioxidants and plenty of water, can ward off damage.
You've spent the winter months working off the holiday pounds so you can look fabulous in that bikini this summer. But while you're out enjoying all that fun in the sun, do you ever give thought to the damage it may be doing to your skin?
Susan Faulkner, spa director and medical technician at Reflections medical spa, said it's completely possible for sun worshipers to have their cake and eat it, too, when it comes to having summer look without damaging the skin irreparably.
SPF60 sunscreens with cell-ox shield as an example, has a UV and antioxidant protection. It's water-resistant, and it can last up to eight hours while still providing 95 percent protection. If you're engaging particularly rigorous activity, you may need to reapply it more frequently.
According to Faulkner, there's a separate product for face and body.
"The body cream goes on really silky and gives the skin a nice shimmer," she said. "After 90 minutes in the sun, most sunscreens give out, no matter what the [skin protection factor] SPF." Faulkner mentioned the addition of certain antioxidants can increase the SPF in sunscreen products.
"An ideal sun product should contain antioxidants, such as vitamin C," said Murad in tan interview with medicinenet.com. The one we like the most is pomegranate extract by mouth. We were able to prove within an independent study that if you took pomegranate extract by mouth, you could increase the SPF of sunscreen by 25 percent.
Faulkner said to care for skin in general, exfoliation is important, but the most important thing in the summertime is reapplying the sunscreen. Those who enjoy outdoor activities have to consider how much sun is too much, and how to protect themselves from burning. The sun is the hottest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so they should minimize exposure during those hours, said Faulkner.
Children playing outside in the summer can also burn easily, especially that first time swimming. Statistics show, on average, children get three times more exposure to powerful UV rays than adults.
